This sucks big time.  A 2 year old Halloween site of mine got penalized by the big G last August 29. From page 1, it is now on page nowhere to be found. All of my keywords dropped like dead flies.

I thought at first it is the Google dance but it has been more than 2 weeks now and my keywords have yet to come out of the purgatory they are in now. It is really quite depressing especially since Halloween is just around the corner and this site has really been converting well. It has shaken my belief in the viability of an internet marketing business relying on search engine traffic alone.

So what could have triggered the penalty? Well, at the time, I was doing some backlinking using Senuke X. But I was not nuking the site. I was creating links slowly (around 10 a day). As to my content, most of them are unique. There are probably just 3 articles (out of 30) that are not unique. I have since rewritten those 3 articles and added more unique pages but still nothing happened.

I really worked hard on that site so I tried researching on how to get it out of the sandbox (if that is really what happened). I created new unique content. I stopped doing backlinks for several days (as suggested by some). I then started doing backlinks again (as suggested by others). I bought a WSO on how to remove your site from the sandbox and followed Mark Dulisse’s tips like changing meta-title, description, etc. I removed analytics from it. The only thing I haven’t done is to move that site to a new server (which I am still trying to figure out how).

I am tired and dejected of trying to figure out how to resurrect that site. Maybe this is really just Google dance since my site is still being indexed and cached by Google. On the other hand, I’ve never experienced Google dance on all pages at the same time for one site. I’ve been to so many forums and experiences vary, some got back after 2 months, others are still in the sandbox after 2 years.

I am seriously rethinking my business model. Should I continue doing affiliate marketing which I love or should I explore other venues of earning money online? I am loathe to get out of my comfort zone but with the way Google is cracking down on many sites, I think it is time to explore other opportunities.

It has been awhile since I posted anything here. I was “distracted” by other money making opportunities and did not attend to this blog for a year (wow, time flies so fast!).

Earning Money From Product Launches

Just to give you a background…

I started this blog when I took a course on Product Launches. No, the course is not about creating products but rather how to take advantage of new product launches.

Basically, you sign up with JV Notify Pro to learn which next shiny thing… err… new Internet Marketing product is going to be launched. You pick one among the numerous incoming product launches and promote it like there’s no tomorrow even before launch date.

Side note: it is amazing how many new internet marketing products come out every week! This goes to show just how lucrative the Internet Marketing niche is.

By the time launch date comes in, get prepared for an avalanche of 4-figure commissions as shown (with proof) by the course I was following. Sounds easy, right?

Well, just like any of these numerous get rich schemes, I was in for a rude awakening.

Getting my keyword to the top of the first page is absolutely challenging if you do your backlinks manually. Actually, I was able to do it (reach the top spot) for several product name keywords. But come launch date, I would suddenly disappear from the first page and get overtaken by other marketers who have a more sophisticated backlinking arsenal (compared to my backbreaking manual backlinking labor).

It was very frustrating. So I abandoned ship after several dismal product launches and went on to look for the next shiny thing.

This is When I Rediscovered…

Amazon. You see, I was doing Amazon affiliate marketing before I got distracted with the Product Launch scheme (ok, I admit it, I get easily distracted).

I was earning some money from Amazon, but not big enough yet to warrant a screenshot.  I just consider it sort of like lunch money, nothing to brag about but something that I get on a regular basis. Not bad but not good enough. Or so I thought.

After my dismal failure with product launches, and not wanting to spend another dime, I went back to where I had my first success and that is good ol’ Amazon.

I checked my earnings from my old Amazon sites and I was shocked to discover that my total earnings since I started have actually reached the 4-digits already! How could I have possibly missed this? I was so engrossed trying to earn the big bucks that I underestimated the value of the cheques that I receive monthly from Amazon.

Lessons Learned

• Patience is truly a virtue. I was impatient to earn the big bucks so I turned my back on Amazon and went after the next shiny thing which turned out to be a dud.
• Big bucks come from small cheques. The Amazon cheques that I have been receiving may not be big (yet) but receiving them on a consistent basis every month has totaled to a tidy sum. This is enough proof for me that I can earn my big bucks with Amazon if I scale it up.
• Focus on what works and build from it. If you’ve earned a dollar from your efforts, you know that you’re doing something right. Stick with it. Learn how you can earn ten dollars next time, then a hundred, and before you know it you’re already earning your first thousand dollars.

Do you want to move to Google Page 1 and get it ALL?
